Mrs. Barron, Kiwanis Advisor
I have been in Kiwanis since September 2, 1997 and appointed to be the Kiwanis Advisor for San Angelo Central High School Key Club. This year is my 10th Anniversary in San Angelo Downtown Kiwanis Club. I have attended the T-O District Key Club Conventions, since 1995. Also, I have attended the (9) Key Club International conventions. In April 2002, at the T-O District Key Club Convention in Corpus Christi, Texas, I was presented the Kiwanis Advisor of the Year for the District. As the Kiwanis Advisor for the San Angelo Central Key Club, I have a saying that is so true about our members. My saying to a Key Club member is "Once a keyclubber, always a keyclubber!" I have enjoyed all the friendships I have with the Key Club members and advisors throughout all these years.
Volunteerism is very important in one's life. As an individual you are giving back to the community, which makes ones' life feel good. All good deeds will be remembered by others and many lives will be touched by your services. It is a great feeling to see a smile in a child's face when you help them read, and up to a smile you give to an elderly person when visiting at the retirement centers.
I have been a volunteer since I was in high school. I started as a candy striper in my hometown hospital. Now, I am a volunteer for Key Club, Safe Kids Coalition, MDA Jerry Lewis Telethon, American Heart Association, Angelo Catholic School, DESK Project (Distributing Educational Supplies for Kids), church, Ft. Concho Landmark, and other organizations that ask for our assistance.
My hobbies are taking pictures of all occasions in my family and Key Club. This way I have a memory of what happened throughout our lives. Also, I enjoy historical events and places to visit when traveling. On my spare time, I do scrap booking and baby-sit my grandchildren. Our grandchildren are our joy of our lives.
I am enjoying my grandchildren and seeing them growing up. My grandson, Michael is 7 years old and in 2 grade. My granddaughter, Meagan is 4 years old. With my grandchildren, I have fun with them when we go to the movies, doing arts and crafts projects for special occasions, or watching movies at home. We love to read books all the time.
